　　1. Hit the roof

　　也可以说，go through the roof，等于中文里的“火冒三丈，暴跳如雷”

　　When I was expelled from school, my parents went through the roof.

　　我被学校开除后，我父母气得暴跳如雷。

　　2. Let the cat out of the bag

　　你让别人keep sth to yourself(对(某事)保守秘密)，结果他let the cat out of the bag(无意中泄秘，说漏嘴)。

　　I was trying to keep the party a secret, but Mel went and let the cat out of the bag.

　　我尽力守住要举办聚会这个秘密，可是梅尔一去就说漏了嘴。

　　3. A rip off

　　如果你说某个东西“rip off”，那说明你觉得它定价过高。

　　The 100-dollar jacket is such a rip off!

　　这件100美元的夹克根本不值这个价钱，它太贵了!

　　4. Water under the bridge

　　形容“已成往事，不可改变的既成事实”。

　　Yes, we did have our disagreements but that’s water under the bridge now.

　　是的，我们确实曾经不和，但那已是陈年往事了。

　　5. Goosebumps

　　英式口语里是goose pimples，表示(由于寒冷、害怕或激动而起的)鸡皮疙瘩。

　　You’re cold – look, you’ve got goosebumps!

　　你觉得冷吧——瞧，你都起鸡皮疙瘩了!

　　6. Go on about sth

　　形容“唠叨;没完没了地讲”。

　　I just wish he’d stop going on about how brilliant his daughter is.” “Yes, he does go on (a bit), doesn’t he?”

　　“我真希望他不要再喋喋不休地说他女儿有多聪明。” “对，他是(有点儿)唠叨，是不是?”

　　7. have it in for sb

　　形容图谋伤害(某人);有意跟(某人)过不去。

　　She’s always had it in for me.

　　她总是跟我过不去。

　　8. Kiss and make up

　　吵架之后言归于好就是“kiss and make up”。

　　They had an argument last week about the new house, but they’ve kissed and made up now.

　　上周他们因为新房大吵一架，不过现在已经和好了。

　　9. clutch/grasp at straws

　　clutch通常指(因恐惧、焦虑或痛苦而)紧抓，紧握，grasp也是紧握的意思，straw的意思是禾秆;麦秆;稻草，clutch/grasp at straws形容(为摆脱困境)抓救命稻草，不放过任何微小的机会。

　　She offered to take a pay cut to keep her job, but she was just clutching at straws.

　　她提出减薪以保住工作，但这只不过是在乱抓救命稻草。

　　10. cross your fingers

　　也可以说keep your fingers crossed，这是在祈求好运。

　　We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the weather stays nice.

　　我们企求天公作美，希望能一直保持这么好的天气。

　　11. Get the sack

　　Get the sack是被解雇，解雇某人就是give an the sack。

　　They gave him the sack for being late.

　　因为迟到，他们开除了他。

　　12. Better safe than sorry

　　小心胜过后悔?其实是说有备无患，“宁可事先谨慎有余，不要事后追悔莫及”。

　　比如提醒别人：

　　Drive safely. Better safe than sorry!

　　开车小心，安全最重要!

　　13. Make sb’s day

　　意思很简单，就是“使…高兴，取悦…”。

　　Seeing Adrian again after such a long time really made my day.

　　过了这么久能与阿德里安再次见面真让我感到高兴。
